Capstone Project Presentation in Madeira

 

In the first edition of Capstone Project Presentation in Madeira , that occurred last year, three Master Students enrolled in Master Human Computer Interaction Program (MHCI) presented a project conducted for MEO, Portugal Telecom. This week, the second edition joined fifteen students to present three projects related with mobile phones and friendly internet solutions for kids, to several companies: SAPO, Critical Software, and Promosoft.

The Videogames 2011 conference took place in the department of Computer Sciences, Faculty of Science, University of Porto (FCUP), and was organized with the support of other institutions as the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, the Portuguese Society of Video Games and Telecommunications Institute (IT) and with the partnership of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal program and UT Austin Program.

With 55 years old, the most quoted Portuguese researcher of Mathematics reaches a high point in her already brilliant career, being elected president of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), the largest and most influential society world in this area. Irene Fonseca, Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, is the director of the Center for Nonlinear Analysis. This Portuguese researcher is responsible for the Applied Mathematics Programs within the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program.

Next July, Manuela Veloso a Portuguese researcher with 54 years old will lead the American Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence. Manuela Veloso lives in the U.S. for 27 years, and she is a professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. Last month, the Chinese Academy of Sciences included her in the list of the 20 most prominent international scientists for her creation – the CoBots.

Portuguese Researcher Manuela Veloso Honored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences
Manuela Veloso, a Portuguese faculty at Carnegie Mellon University, and mother of the robot-soccer “CoBots” is among the 20 international scientists that were honored by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Veloso is a researcher in the field of computer science and robotics at CMU, and also collaborates with the Institute for Systems and Robotics in Portugal. Manuela Veloso was named “Chair Professor Einstein 2012” by the Academy, the only distinguished in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics. Manuela Veloso is also a researcher of the MAIS-S project at the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program, and advisor of Susana Brandão, a dual degree Ph.D. student in Electrical and Computer Engineering.
