ONE (1) Research grant under CMU Portugal Exploratory Project SIGNO 

A call is open for a research grant (BI) for a Master’s student enrolled in the exercise of scientific research activities within the scope of the research project “Signo – Value Systems in Digital Technologies for Health” (Ref. 2022.15724.CMU). This project is funded by FCT and will take place at the Institute of Philosophy of the University of Porto (IF) in collaboration with the Center for Assistive Information and Communication Solutions of the Fraunhofer Portugal Research Association. THREE (3) Research grants under CMU Portugal Large Scale Collaborative project IntelligentCare at INESC ID

THREE (3) research grants are available for candidates with BSc degree under the scope of project INTELLIGENTCARE. The IntelligentCare project develops a multimorbidity management decision support system focused on the patient’s vision of value. The candidates should have a BSc in Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or equivalent scientific areas.

The applicant to be hired will join a team engaged in performing exploratory analysis of clinical data for clinical phenotyping and identification of most frequent representative groups iin multimorbidity, and investigation and exploration of different data mining algorithms supporting this task.

ONE Research Grant is available under the Project “CRUAV – Cooperative Trajectory Planning for Real-Time Surveillance in UAV-assisted Intelligent Transportation Systems” funded by Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia I. P. (FCT).

ONE research grant (BI) in Computer Science under the scope of CMU Portugal exploratory project “Supervised Deanonymization of Dark Web Traffic for Cybercrime Investigation”

A research grant is available for a MSc candidate with a degree in Computer Science, Informatics, systems Engineering or similar area on network traffic analysis in #Tor networks to work at INESC TEC.

Work description: – study the state of the art on machine learning algorithms for network traffic analysis; – study the state of the art on complexity reduction of neural networks; – devise methods for speeding up the inference of ML algorithms; – study the viability of incremental training with continuous flows of network traffic; – implement algorithms in a platform for network traffic analysis; – evaluate the system in the proposed problems; – develop an MSc dissertation; – draft a scientific paper proposal.

Postdoctoral Research Associate – Mechanical Engineering at CMU under CMU Portugal Large Scale Collaborative project WoW

Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Carmel Majidi lab in MechE at Carnegie Mellon to carry out advanced independent and/or directed research to achieve the objectives of the research project. This position will require an in depth knowledge of a specialized field, process, subject area and may involve coordinating and implementing complex research plans, development of methods of research, testing and data collection, analysis and evaluation, and writing reports which contain descriptive, analytical and evaluative content. The candidate will lead research on the development of sticker-like soft and stretchable electronics for wearable technologies. This will include the fabrication and testing of soft printed electronics using liquid metal alloy.

Research Opportunity in Electrical Engineering under project TAMI

A Call will be open from January 27th 2021, to work under the scope of CMU Portugal Large Scale Collaborative project TAMI.  This position is adressed to students of an integrated higher education master’s degree in electrical engineering, informatics, bioengineering, informatics or similar with experience in deep learning models, computer vision and in python. The candidate will be responsible for preparing a survey on multimodal vision models based on deep learning with interpretability requirements; investigate and propose new solutions to integrate heterogeneous visual sources, overcoming the limitations of current systems; carry out an experimental comparative study of the proposed solutions and state of the art, based on project datasets or publicly available; write a scientific article; write the activity report for the scholarship.

Research grant in Computer Science and Engineering under project SyNAPSE 

A Call is open under the scope of project CMU/TIC/0083/2019, funded exclusively by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) under the scope of the CMU Portugal Exploratory Project SyNAPSE. The candidates should have an MSc Computer Science and Engineering or related areas. The grant holder will: learn the internals of programming smart network equipment and catalog the requirements, constraints, and limitations of each platform; help build the first SyNAPSE research prototype synthesis engine and develop optimizations for the synthesis engine to offload functionality to the smart devices.

Senior Data Scientist Research 

A Call is open for a Senior Scientist within the context of the CMU Portugal Large-Scale Project iFetch – Multimodal Conversational for the Online Fashion Marketplace. The Data Scientist will join Farfetch in building the next-generation intelligent platform for online luxury fashion, powered by large-scale data. The role will be Research and Development (R&D) to enable this platform with state of the art Deep Learning and Computer Vision methods entangled with Information Retrieval and Natural Language Processing algorithms. The selected candidate will join a talented team of Data Scientists and Researchers working on the iFetch project in close partnership with 2 Portuguese Universities (Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Instituto Superior Técnico) and Carnegie MellonUniversity. Applied Scientist Lead 

A Call is open for an Applied Scientist Lead in the the context of the CMU Portugal Large-Scale Project iFetch – Multimodal Conversational for the Online Fashion Marketplace. Research Grant for MSC in the Project eCSAAP – Human Computer Interaction

The candidate will integrate the research team of project eCSAAP. The candidate will be responsible for the specification and development of a prototype of a specialized crowdsourcing framework, supporting the tests and evaluation provided in the scope of the project. The work will be developed at INESC TEC at the pole of the University of Tras-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) in Vila Real. 1 BI-M is now available in the project ref. CMUP-ERI/HCI/0051/2013, funded by FCT/MEC through national funds (PIDDAC) – Engineering 

The project INSIDE is a collaboration between Carnegie Mellon University, INESC-ID, Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Hospital Garcia de Orta, and three Portuguese companies (IDMind, VoiceInteraction and Plux). It addresses symbiotic human-robot interaction in the context of therapy of children with ASD. The grantees are expected to contribute to the deployment stage of the INSIDE infrastructure, namely in terms of: Deployment of animation behaviors in the mobile robot used in the project; Deployment of high-level interaction behaviors that allow the robot to react to the actions of the human user (child).

Web developer

For the 3rd phase of the CMU Portugal Program the objective is to create a new and up to date website that will allow the Program to communicate clearly the new institutional image of CMU Portugal, together with the new activities and initiatives that are expected to take place. The fellowship holder should be able to produce, configure, and/or maintain a content management system and an email service with the requirements of performance, security, availability, and ease of use.

Graphic designer

For the 3rd phase of the CMU Portugal Program the objective is to create a new and up to date Institutional Identity. The fellowship holder should be able to develop and implement a proposal for the new CMU Portugal logotype and visual devices, such as a new stationery (Letterhead + business card + envelopes, etc.), marketing collaterals (Flyers, brochures, posters, etc), online materials (banners, adds, etc..) and other visual elements to support the new image of the CMU Portugal program.
