The Universidade de Aveiro (UA) created in 1973, is one of the youngest universities in Portugal. Now a public foundation under private law, UA carries on the mission to provide world class undergraduate and postgraduate education, support research and promote cooperation with society.

Attended by about 15,000 students on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the Universidade de Aveiro has already achieved a significant position amongst higher education institutions in Portugal.

Partnership with Carnegie Mellon

The Universidade de Aveiro offers  dual-degree Ph.D. programs in partnership with Carnegie Mellon’s College of Engineering (Electrical and Computer Engineering) and the School of Computer Science (Language Technology , Computer Science, Robotics, Human Computer-Interaction, Software Engineering). 

The Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics (CLSBE) is a private University in Lisbon and one of the most prominent Business & Economics Schools in Europe, ranked 26th in the Financial Times Top European Business Schools ranking. This position was achieved by combining world-class students and Faculty, strong and diverse academic programs, innovative learning initiatives, unique partnerships with the most prestigious international schools such as Carnegie Mellon, and a close relationship with the business world.

The Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics offered in the past two dual-degree Ph.D. programs in partnership with Carnegie Mellon:

– Technical Change and Innovation with Carnegie Mellon’s Strategy, Entrepreneurship, and Technological Change program;
– Technology Management and Policy with Carnegie Mellon’s Department of Engineering and Public Policy 

Located in the center of Portugal, the Universidade de Coimbra is a public university and one of the oldest universities in the world. CMU Portugal Dual Programs are housed at Faculty of Sciences and Technology (FCTUC) is the major faculty within the Universidade de Coimbra.

The Universidade de Coimbra partners with Carnegie Mellon’s to offer dual-degree PhD Programs with the College of Engineering (Electrical and Computer Engineering) and the School of Computer Science (Language Technology , Computer Science, Robotics, Human Computer-Interaction, Software Engineering).

The Universidade de Lisboa (UL) campus was founded in 1911 as a public University. CMU Portugal Dual Programs are housed at Faculdade de Ciências (FCUL) and Instituto Superior Técnico.

Partnership with Carnegie Mellon

Together with Carnegie Mellon University, Universidade de Lisboa offers dual-degree doctoral programs in seven disciplines with the College of Engineering (Electrical and Computer Engineering); the School of Computer Science (Language Technology , Computer Science, Robotics, Human Computer-Interaction, Software Engineering) and the Department of Engineering and Public Policy (Engineering and Public Policy). 

The Universidade da Madeira is located in Funchal, Madeira’s Island capital, about 700 km off the west coast of Morocco. Along with the Azores, Madeira is one of two autonomous Regions of Portugal. The island university attracts students from all over the island, as well as an increasing population from mainland Portugal and abroad.

In 2007, Madeira’s Mathematics and Engineering Department, along with Carnegie Mellon’s  established a dual-degree Master’s program in Human-Computer Interaction program with Carnegie Mellon’s HCII – Human Computer Interaction Institute.

Located in northern Portugal, the Universidade do Minho (UMinho) is well renowned for its strong relationship with the surrounding Minho region, a center of entrepreneurial activity. The University has a campus in Braga and two others in Guimarães, Azurém Campus and Couros Campus.

The Universidade do Minho offers dual degree PhD programs in partnership with Carnegie Mellon’s College of Engineering (Electrical and Computer Engineering) and the School of Computer Science (Language Technology , Computer Science, Robotics, Human Computer-Interaction, Software Engineering). 

The Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Nova) was founded in 1973 and is the youngest of Lisbon’s three state Universities. Nova is not confined to a single campus: it has five faculties and four university institutes that are located in and around Lisbon and this decentralized nature has given its faculties and institutes a great deal of autonomy. The university is now home to 46 different scientific research centers. CMU Portugal Dual Programs are housed at NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA).

The Universidade Nova de Lisboa offers five dual-degree Ph.D. programs along with Carnegie Mellon’s School of Computer Science (Language Technology , Computer Science, Robotics, Human Computer-Interaction, Software Engineering).

Located in northern Portugal and founded in 1911, the Universidade do Porto (U.Porto) is a benchmark institution for Higher Education and Scientific Research in Portugal and one of the top 200 European Universities according to the most relevant international ranking systems. 

The U.Porto is committed to converting into social assets the talent and innovation from its 14 faculties, one business school and over 50 research centres. CMU Portugal Dual Programs are housed at the Faculty of Engineering  (FEUP) and Faculty of Sciences (FCUP) .
