Irene Fonseca: The Math Champion
With 55 years old, the most quoted Portuguese researcher of Mathematics reaches a high point in her already brilliant career, being elected president of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), the largest and most influential society world in this area. Irene Fonseca, Professor at the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, is the director of the Center for Nonlinear Analysis. This Portuguese researcher is responsible for the Applied Mathematics Programs within the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program.
