Visiting Students Program
The Visiting Students Program, offered by the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program, is an intensive research experience which consists in a cultural immersion for talented masters and master students.
The Visiting Students Program builds up on the success of the Undergraduate Internship Program initiated in 2014 that counted with the participation of 69 students, including the 2024 visitors.

The main goal of the Visiting Students Program is to provide high-quality research opportunities, offering masters or master’s students the possibility of developing their knowledge and skills as researchers, while opening perspectives for career opportunities in cutting-edge fields of Information and Communication Technologies.
Applicants will have the opportunity to develop full-time research and this way participate in state-of-the-art research projects, interact with prominent research teams, and be mentored by leading faculty and researchers at CMU.
Financial support and activities report
The candidates admitted to the Visiting Students Program will receive an FCT Subsídio a Atividades de Transferência de Conhecimento e Tecnologia to cover living expenses during their stay. The financial support will be available from 2 to 3 months.
The CMU Portugal Program will also support a one-off travel allowance. All the other expenditures for accommodation, meals and transportation will be supported directly by the candidate.
Health insurance is mandatory at CMU, and will be covered by the CMU Portugal Program in accordance with the call announcement in place.
At the end of the Program, the candidate will be required to a report describing the activity developed during that period.

Finantial Support
- Monthly stipend to cover living expenses during the stay

Candidate profile
- Portuguese citizens or foreign citizens with permanent residence in Portugal during the research period at CMU;
- Applicants must be pursuing a master’s degree in the area of ICT and affiliated with a Portuguese Higher Education Institution or have finished their master’s degree in Portugal in ICT in the past five years.
- Preference is given to candidates with a Licenciatura or bachelors degree grade of 14 (or equivalent) or higher, and professional and/or academic work aligned with the CMU Portugal main research areas.

* For candidates with degrees granted by foreign higher education institutions it is mandatory to have equivalence/recognition of the degree.
