I am a PhD candidate in Electrical and Computer Engineering, pursuing a double degree at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). I am advised by Yuejie Chi (CMU) and João Xavier (IST), and co-advised by Cláudia Soares (NOVA). Prior to that, I received an MSc in Aerospace Engineering from IST in 2019. My research interests focus on provable optimization methods for efficient distributed machine learning systems. During my PhD, I have been working on efficient vertical federated learning.
From 2008 to 2014, Vikram went to Carnegie Mellon University and University or Porto under the CMU-Portugal program to pursue PhD in Computer Engineering. As a part of his PhD, Vikram’s research won the best paper award at Sensys 09 among several highly cited publications. After finishing the doctoral studies, he came back to India to found Awiros, a technology startup based in Delhi that is building the world’s first Video Intelligence Operating System.
Vinay Prabhu is currently the Chief Scientist at UnifyID Inc, where he leads efforts towards architecting and deploying the state-of-the-art passive mobile biometrics solution by bringing together machine learning algorithms and smart-sensor data to model the human behind the device.
