Américo Alves

Américo Alves is an ECE PhD student at NOVA FCT with a strong background in data acquisition, control theory, signal processing, and telecommunications. His research at IT/NOVA integrates these foundations into AI/ML solutions to enhance the resilience of next-generation wireless communication systems against adversarial attacks.

Filipa Mota

Filipa Mota is a Ph.D. candidate in Electronic and Computer Engineering at the University of Minho, working in NEMS technology. She earned both her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Engineering Physics from the same institution. Between 2023 and 2025, she worked as a Research Assistant in the Hanay Research Group at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) in Braga, Portugal, where she focused on the design, microfabrication, and characterization of MEMS devices.

Nila Bagheri

Nila Bagheri completed a bachelor’s in electrical engineering, focusing her research on Photonics and designing gates based on photonic crystals. She finished my Master in Telecommunications, specifically in Antenna Design, particularly fractal antennas. Currently, a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering at the University of Beira Interior in Portugal, deeply passionate about exploring uncharted territories in wireless systems.  Her research focus includes pioneering advancements in Spectrum Sharing, Cell-free mMIMO, Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces, and Photonic Crystal Antennas. She is motivated by thrill of discovery, committed to contributing to the relentless advancement of wireless technology.

José Maria Senart

José is a PhD candidate at Instituto Superior Técnico, within the Department of Electrotechnic Engineering. His topic is Optical Quantum Memories and applications to Quantum Communication, exploring quantum information and light-matter interaction. He holds a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Engineering Physics from Instituto Superior Técnico.

José Pedro Gomes

José Pedro Gomes is a Ph.D. student working in the intersection of computer graphics, computer vision, and deep learning. Aiming to push the boundaries of generative models to create visually stunning and immersive virtual environments. José is supervised by Prof. Fernando De La Torre at CMU and Prof. Alexandre Bernardino in Portugal.

Pedro Cachim

Pedro Cachim holds a dual Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering from IST and ISAE-SUPAERO and works as a guidance, navigation and control engineer at GMV. His PhD research will focus on the provably safe and performant implementation of optimization-based guidance and control algorithms.

Marta Freitas

Marta Calisto Freitas is a Biomedical Engineer currently pursuing a Dual Degree PhD at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Coimbra, researching soft and printed electronics to develop novel solutions for soft medical robotics.
