Master of Software Engineering – ICTI: Information & Communication Technologies Institute – Carnegie Mellon University

Master of Software Engineering (MSE)
The joint Carnegie Mellon – University of Coimbra Master of Software Engineering program is designed for early to mid-career software professionals who desire to become leaders and agents of change in the software engineering industry.

The MSE program answers this career goal by teaching the practical application of innovative theories in a mentored studio environment.

Graduates from the Coimbra MSE program are highly astute, bringing together technical aptitudes with managerial, leadership, and communication skills. The 16-month program consists of three traditional semesters and one intensive summer session. The program begins in the fall semester and ends the following year in December. During the program, students have both course work and a studio project. The summer semester is when students devote most of their time to their studio project; this affords the students the opportunity to become deeply involved in the implementation of their project.

Initially, classes are taught at the University of Coimbra; then, in the spring semester, students join the MSE program students at Carnegie Mellon. By enrolling at Carnegie Mellon, students further strengthen their communication skills as a result of the new multi-cultural environment, as well as develop close contacts with the entire faculty and alumni involved in the program. Upon completion of the program, students receive two degrees: a diploma from the University of Coimbra and a Master of Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon.

Some students may be eligible for tuition and living costs. For more information, view Coimbra’s MSE website.
