inRes 2016 team TWEVO wins funding from Horizon 2020
TWEVO, a inRes 2016 team, is one of the winners of the European grant SME Instrument, a Horizon 2020 funding mechanism. The startup, based in Leiria, ranked fifth among more than 650 applications from all over Europe.
The founder of TWEVO, Carlos Ribeiro, also a professor and researcher at the Department of Electrotechnical Engineering at the Escola Superior de Tecnologia e Gestão of Politécnico de Leiria, gives more details on their application: “The project was presented directly to the European SME Agency and consists of a wireless modem for communicating with robots and drones, which was developed as part of my postdoctoral research at the Polytechnic of Leiria.”
In 2016 the project was selected as one of the teams to participate in the CMU Portugal Program inRes program, with the technology-based business model, focused on advanced wireless links for remote professional vehicles. On their time in Pittsburgh, during the inRes immersion, Carlos Ribeiro stated: “Our time in the US has enabled us to validate the needs of the market and gain a deeper understanding of the requirements of the customers of this country, a work we will now do in Europe as well.”
SME Instrument selects the more innovative and disruptive projects, with a high potential to create new markets or to revolutionize the existing ones, within the scope of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Europe.
