CMU Portugal PhD Student Distinguished in Milan with First Prize
The research paper authored by Filipe Condessa, from the island of São Miguel, Azores, was deemed the best among the work 99 international researchers who presented at the IGARRS, the 2015 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, earning him the Mikio Takagi Student First Prize.
Filipe Condessa is a dual degree Ph.D. student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program, at the Instituto Superior Técnico da Universidade de Lisboa (IST) and the Carnegie Mellon Uiversity (CMU). The paper was written by Filipe Condessa with his two advisors, José Bioucas-Dias (IST) and Jelena Kovacévič (CMU).
Hosted by the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society, the International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 2015 is the world’s premier symposium on the subject of remote sensing and was held at the end of July, in Milan, Italy.
Filipe Condessa’s paper, a scientific research work in the field of geoscience and remote sensing, succeeded in producing an image that identifies different states of maturation of crops or the spread of diseases in agriculture. The team led by Filipe Condessa is currently “applying these techniques and these concepts in the microscope image classification for the identification of biological tissues.”
