Researchers Develop Communication System Between Vehicles to Reduce Accidents
Researchers at the Institute of Telecommunications and at the Universidade do Porto carried out a research project that determines how the digital wireless communications between vehicles can improve driving safety and efficiency in traffic . The See-Through System ( STS) was explained to Lusa using the analogy of a mirror to aid the driver. ” We want to design something like a mirror, but that allows us to see the road in the front of a truck or bus that follows ahead ,” said the principal investigator of the project . The work is one of the outcomes of the DRIVE -IN project , funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia, as part of the international partnership program Carnegie Mellon Portugal .
