FCT has a New President Maria Arménia Carrondo is the new President of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia

Maria Arménia Carrondo was appointed as the new President of Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), becoming the first woman to lead the Portuguese funding agency for Science and Technology, in its 48-year history. Maria Arménia Carrondo was vice director of Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica (ITQB), Universidade Nova de Lisboa (1996-2005) and later vice rector of NOVA University (2007-2013). She has been a professor and researcher at ITQB-UNL since 1998. |
With a Ph.D. in Chemical Crystallography from the Imperial College of Science and Technology (London), Maria Arménia Carrondo has a degree in Chemical Engineering from Faculdade de Engenharia of the Universidade do Porto. More recently, she was one of the twenty women scientists portrayed in the exhibition “Mulheres na Ciência”, inaugurated last March at Pavilhão do Conhecimento, in Lisbon. Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia is the funding agency of the Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program.
