Computers that Talk with People
In a room at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Lisbon, Gopala Anumanchipalli was preparing himself for a conference with students and researchers. It is a relaxed meeting, with lunch for the participants. “I know it sounds weird, but my job is to talk with computers,” explains the Indian investigator, working in Portugal in an international project involving Carnegie Mellon University, the Institute of Systems and Computer Engineering (INESC) and Priberam linguistic software company, in Lisbon. This is to make the computers talk to humans.
