Agreement of Lajes earns much cooperation

Most of the agreements concluded between the Portuguese authorities and the U.S. is based on the Agreement on Cooperation and Defense between Portugal and the United States, which grants the Pentagon the use of base facilities in moderation . The case of Carnegie Mellon and Portugal, signed between the Portuguese Government and American University, the subject of cooperation, relates to projects in the field of information processing networks, including critical infrastructure and risk analysis, as well as areas of applied mathematics, technology, innovation and policy. Carnegie Mellon University Portugal Program partners with the University of Texas at Austin for the 2009 Colab Mathematics Summer School and Workshop – ICTI: Information & Communication

The summer school and workshop is a yearly event that brings together Ph.D. students and junior faculty with well known experts in the several areas of mathematics. This year, the two-week program will be held in Lisbon, Portugal at the Interdisciplinary Complex of the University of Lisbon. The week of July 13 to 17 will feature a summer school for graduate students and postdocs, with lectures by E.Carlen, P. Degond, I. Gamba, M. Katsoulakis and R. Pego. The following week of July 20 to 24 will hold a workshop featuring lectures on recent progress in this field.

Graduate and post doctoral students are eligible to apply for funding for the first and second week of the program.

“FEUP-CIQS: Innovation for the quality”

The science of Software Engineering from FEUP is seeking to develop research and development, promoting education and training, serve the best international practices support and the improvement of business processes development, maintenance, procurement and support systems based in software and improving the quality of their products, contributing thus enhancing the competitiveness of the software industry in Portugal. In this sense, a partnership was established in formal collaboration with the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) from Carnegie-Mellon University (CMU), the main reference of Software Engineering in the world and responsible for creating, among others, the CMMI models and TSP / PSP. Transporting all the advances and discoveries, from scientific research to reality of industrial and commercial enterprises, is the objective of technology transfer.

The initiative falls within the network UTEN – University Technology Enterprise Network, formed as part of an international partnerships in science and technology, with the aim of facilitating access to technology-based business projects to other markets, which is possible through a collaboration with the University of Texas at Austin, the Fraunhofer Institute, as well as through programs such as MIT|Portugal – CMU|Portugal.
