Portugal and USA Study the Creation of a Spaceport at Lajes Airport
Carnegie Mellon University and other American and Portuguese universities are studying the creation of a spaceport at the Lajes International Airport, in Azores (Portugal). The goal is to build a launch facility for low cost rockets with microsatellites and large satellite constellations. This spaceport is just a part of a bigger project: the Azores International Research Center.
In this study are also included other organizations: the Portuguese Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Azores Regional Government, NASA, the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, an American organization, among others.
