Patient Innovation – The Portuguese Online Platform Where Patients Share Their Innovative Solutions
The Portuguese Online Platform, Patient Innovation, has awarded six users for their uniquely created solutions to their everyday disease related struggles. The project’s Advisory Board selected the winners from three categories, distinguishing collaborations among users, caregiver solution or solo inventions. The award ceremony took place July 13, 2015 in Lisbon, with the presence of Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Eric von Hippel from MIT, Carliss Baldwin from Harvard University, João Claro, National Director of Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program and Artur Santos Silva, President of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

The Patient Innovation project aims to create an international, multilingual, non-profit platform and social network to connect patients and caregivers, and enable the sharing of their solutions. This project counts on the support of a team of international experts in many areas, from the most highly ranked Institutions and Universities in the world, as members of its Advisory Board and Project Supporters. Patient Innovation has also partnered with almost two dozen patient associations from Portugal, Serbia, Croatia, Malaysia, Australia, United Kingdom and United States.

Patient Innovation is related with the Entrepreneurial Research Initiatives “Technology, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Policy Lab” (TEIPL), carried out in the scope of the CMU Portugal Program, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia.
