In the Media: SAFEFOREST project highlighted in Expresso

The CMU Portugal large Scale Collaborative project SAFEFOREST, led by Ingeniarius in collaboration with Silvapor, ISR Coimbra , Associação para o Desenvolvimento da Aerodinâmica Industrial (ADAI) and the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University was highlighted in Expresso, one of the leading Portuguese newspapers.

The article “Conheça o Ranger, o robô que uma equipa de portugueses quer pôr a limpar matas sem intervenção humana” (“Meet Ranger, the robot that intends to clear forests without human intervention”) introduced the robot Ranger developed by Ingeniarius  that is developing under the SafeForest project  an advanced robotic system for the prevention of wildland and wildland-urban interface (WWUI) fires.

One of the main goals of this research project is to drastically reduce the costs associated with the maintenance of forests with the help of advanced monitoring and robotic system to improve the maintenance of forests and contribute to reducing the wildfire hazard potential.

According to Micael Couceiro, Ingeniarius CEO “there are many projects for the development of robots to put out fires, but there are very few with the objective of developing robots to prevent these fires”. The goal is to have “by the end of 2021, the first prototype ready. And by the end of 2023 we should have the first prototypes of drones completed”.
