CMU Portugal will be part of a 18 M€ R&D Call for international partnerships

The Carnegie Mellon Portugal Program (CMU Portugal) will soon be part of a 18 M€ call for projects launched by Fundação Portuguesa para a Tecnologia (FCT) and Agência Nacional para a Inovação (ANI) under the scope of the GoPortugal Initiative. The expected opening date for the call is February and more information will soon be available at our website and social media pages.  

The call will fund collaborative R&D projects between companies and non-corporate entities of the R&I system, under the three Portuguese international partnerships which includes the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) partnership. 

The research area open under the CMU Portugal Program is the broad ICT area, with a preferential focus on:

  • Data Science and Engineering
  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • Autonomy and Mobility
  • Design in a Variety of Societal Settings and Applications

The main goal of this Call is to turn Portuguese companies into a dynamic force in collaborative networks and projects, with support from Portuguese R&D institutions, drawing on the experience and knowledge of North American universities.  The Call will be launched on the Balcão Portugal 2020 platform (www.portugal2020.pt).

Applications will be allowed from collaborative projects led by one Portuguese company in partnership with at least two entities of the Portuguese R&D system and the participation of at least one Principal Investigator from CMU and should contribute to consolidate the intergovernmental “Atlantic Interactions” initiative.

About the GoPortugal Initiative – Global Science and Technology Partnerships Portugal (2018-2030)

Aims to stimulate scientific and entrepreneurial development; to promote Portugal’s positioning in the World through the scientific and economic valorization of an innovative agenda on “Atlantic Interactions”; attract funding and mobilize various actors, national and international, using an innovative approach in several areas of knowledge. This new stage will provide the creation of qualified employment, attracting human resources of recognized international merit to Portugal.
