Today Pittsburgh accommodates companies that generate hundreds of billions of dollars, such as HJ Heinz, Alcoa, U.S. Steel and PNC Financial Services Group. The needs of its aging population helped to foster medical research. The presence of research schools such as Carnegie Mellon University contributed with the development and emergence of start-ups companies specializing in the areas of software, biotechnology, and renewable energy. |
