Luís Miguel Dias Costa is originally from Lisbon and is studying at the University of Lisbon for his Master of Science in Information Networking with a focus on Information Security (MSIN-IS). He received his bachelor of science in Computer Engineering from the University of Lisbon’s Faculty of Sciences. Prior to starting his MSIN-IS program, Costa worked in networking security at TMN, Portugal Telecom’s cellular phone operator. His research interests include network security, next-generation internet, network QoS and QoS management. Costa chose to attend the dual-degree program because of the focus of the information security program, as well as the financial support from Portugal Telecom. In his free time, Costa enjoys sailing and traveling. For professional goals, he hopes to create a team where new technology-based ideas can be developed, strengthening Portugal Telecom’s position as a leader in telecommunications, while helping the technological development of his country.

Ricardo Nuno de Pinho Coelho Conde Marques is a student in the Master of Science in Information Networking with a focus on Information Security (MSIN-IS) program, studying at the University of Lisbon. He received his bachelor of science in computer science from the University of Lisbon’s Faculty of Sciences. In his previous work experience, Marques had been running his own business for several years, developing custom-tailored applications using databases, distributed computing, and other technologies. More recently, as a System Architect and Security Lead, he was involved in researching and developing technologies for network management systems at Nokia Siemens Networks. His research interests include software security and usability, but he is also interested in how the technologies solve business needs: “My job is to understand the technology and to see how it fits in the company's profile and roadmap, while at the same time ensuring that the development teams are aware of what they need to do.” Marques decided to join the MSIT-IS program to “refresh some of the concepts learned during my college education, and enhance my capabilities in other areas of knowledge.” Hailing from Azambuja, Portugal, he enjoys cinema, swimming, and tennis. Marques says that his professional goals are to become the best in his area of expertise at Nokia Siemens, and to help educate others about networking security and why it’s important.

Tiago Filipe Rodrigues de Carvalho || tcarvalho at cmu dot edu

Tiago, a MSIT-IS student, has already spent one semester on the Carnegie Mellon campus, where he not only benefited from working with some of the most respected teachers in the Engineering / Technology field, but also enjoyed getting to know the city of Pittsburgh. After receiving a degree in Electric and Computer Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico, he began work with Portugal Telecom in IT Risk, Quality of Service, and Security Analysis and Monitoring Tools Development. While Tiago has broad research interests in IT management, his is currently focusing on the main topics of his studies: network management and security analysis. He also enjoys playing sports and reading.
